Dame Allan's DT Masterclass Y6

21st November 2018

During our design technology master class, we made a 3D tree decoration. We used a template on the computer as a guide to create our chosen picture. We used the mouse to go around the edges of the shape with a line tool. No gaps were allowed in the joins otherwise the 3D printing machine wouldn’t be able to recognise it. This was because the machine that replicated our drawing used coordinates to recognise what we had drawn and copied it identically to thermos plastic – very clever! We were able to add a piece of text into the centre of the shape before finishing it to give it even more of a personalised touch.

Once the machine had replicated it, it was then put into a hot oven to heat the plastic so that it was able to be easily manipulated into a different shape. See photos here
